Geely invests in Micro LED microdisplay maker JBD

Recently, the official website of Aiqicha shows that Shanghai Xianyao Display Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "JBD") has undergone industrial and commercial changes, and the company's registered capital has increased to 55.8417 million yuan. A new shareholder, Geely Co-Creating No. 2 Investment Partnership, holds 0.97% of JBD's shares and subscribed capital of 440,000 yuan. According to the holding structure information, Geely Co-Chuang No. 2 Investment Partnership is indirectly controlled by Geely Holding Group.

In fact, this is not the first time Geely has invested in JBD. The A4 round of financing completed by JBD in June last year was led by Geely Holdings, Zhejiang Alibaba Cloud Computing Co., Ltd.

Information shows that JBD's business scope includes integrated circuit design; integrated circuit chip design and services; integrated circuit chip and product manufacturing; integrated circuit chip and product sales; display device manufacturing, etc. It is a Micro LED microdisplay manufacturer.

JBD has developed rapidly in recent years and has become a representative manufacturer in the field of domestic microdisplays. It has successively released a variety of full-color and monochrome Micro LED microdisplays, light engines, and modules. The minimum product volume can reach 0.15cc, and continues to break through the technical problems of Micro LED microdisplays. For example, the brightness of the red light chip has been increased by more than 1 million nits; the "Phoenix" series of 0.2-inch, 10,000+PPI single-chip full-color Micro LED display chips has been developed.

In terms of production line construction, in October last year,The first phase of the Hefei microdisplay R&D and manufacturing project with a total investment of 1.5 billion yuan by JBD has been officially completed. In the future, the project will bring JBD an annual production capacity of 120 million sets of Micro LED microdisplays, which can meet the market demand for MicroLED microdisplay technology.

Currently, JBD has become one of the major suppliers of Micro LED microdisplay technology in the field of AR glasses. According to incomplete statistics, 18 models of AR glasses are equipped with JBD’s Micro LED micro-display technology.

In addition to AR glasses, JBD's Micro LED micro-display technology can also be used in micro-projection, HUD heads-up displays, 3D printing, sports optical instruments, light field displays and other fields.

Among them, in the field of HUD head-up display, JBD's Micro LED display panel can work in a wide temperature range from -40°C to 85°C, and its Micro There is no micro-electromechanical system in the LED display, so it is resistant to vibration and recoil, and the panel is self-illuminating and non-backlit, providing the highest possible contrast ratio (>10000:1) and dynamic range to meet the application needs of HUD.

As a domestic automobile brand, Geely has once again invested in JBD, and may also be optimistic about the application prospects of Micro LED micro-display technology in HUD heads-up displays and other fields. In the future, Geely brand cars may gradually apply Micro LED display technology, and the pace of Micro LED application in the automotive field is expected to accelerate.

TrendForce has stated that because car manufacturers require Micro LED head-up displays to have a penetration rate of ≥70% and a curved surface design, and as technology and product prices mature, it is expected that Micro LED transparent displays will be introduced into the automotive market in 2026-2027 for augmented reality head-up displays (AR-HUD) or car window displays.
