According to statistics from the Optoelectronics Association (PIDA), the LED component industry in Taiwan can achieve a growth rate of 10% and 14% respectively in 2014 and 2015.
In 2014, there were important events such as Taiwan's ground-breaking merger of LED epitaxial wafers, Chip Epistar and Brightstone, Everlight's production expansion plan, and the attraction of major international manufacturer CREE to invest in Lextar, which have greatly improved Taiwan's international visibility. It is estimated that Taiwan's LED component industry will reach a growth rate of 10% and 14% in 2014 and 2015 respectively.
Mainland China is the most dazzling region in the global LED component industry. In recent years, medium-power LEDs for lighting have developed rapidly, and the independent supply chain for LED components has increased significantly. Therefore, Sanan Optoelectronics, MLS, Nationstar, Jufei, etc. have grown by leaps and bounds of 40%. In 2014, the mainland's LED component industry is expected to grow by 43%, and will continue to grow by 25% in 2015.
As for Japan and South Korea, due to the sharp depreciation of Japan's exchange rate for two consecutive years, the price competitiveness of products priced in Japanese yen should be relatively improved. However, the revenue performance of Nichia and Toyoda Gosei in 2014 was mixed, with one increase and one decrease. The Japanese LED component industry is estimated to have only a small growth rate of 1% and 5% in 2014 and 2015. South Korea's LED industry is highly connected to the display, mobile phone and LED application industries. Therefore, as the above-mentioned industries continue to decline, it will also impact the revenue performance of LED manufacturers. It is estimated that the output value of South Korea's LED component industry will experience a 3% decline and a slight growth of 2% in 2014 and 2015.
Although Taiwan still ranked first in the output value of LED components in 2014, and there have been events such as the merger of major manufacturers and strategic cooperation with major international manufacturers taking shares, the influence of Taiwan in the global overall lighting market is still not high. The lighting markets in various countries are still dominated by international or regional lighting manufacturers. In the past, Taiwan's LED component industry had few rivals in the mobile phone and LCD backlight markets. Now it is facing different and considerable challenges in the lighting application market.
