Samsung will build Micro OLED display production line in 2023

Recently, Korean media further reported details of Samsung’s Micro OLED display factory. It is reported that Samsung has begun ordering equipment for the 300mm pilot production line. The equipment suppliers are planned to be SFA Engineering and AP Systems. The production line will be located at the Samsung A2 factory in Asan, South Korea.

Samsung hopes that the production line will receive the first equipment in the first quarter of 2023 and will start mass production at the end of 2023, with a monthly production capacity of 6,400 wafers. The production line will begin full production in 2024.

Samsung has stated that displays for AR and VR are one of the company’s key areas of focus. According to previous reports, Apple has contacted Samsung to develop Micro OLED displays for the AR devices Apple is developing. At the beginning of 2022, Samsung Display also stated that the company is developing Micro OLED displays and the project is in the early development stage. The company will start building the first production line in 2023, mass-produce Micro OLED displays in 2024, and expand production capacity in 2025 to achieve full commercialization in 2026.
