Sichuan and Chongqing will build a world-class new display industry cluster in Sichuan and Chongqing

The 2022 World Display Industry Conference press conference was held online in Chengdu and Beijing on the 11th. At the meeting, Chen Wentao, full-time deputy director of the Sichuan Provincial Information Office, said that Sichuan will further consolidate and enhance its industrial advantages and competitiveness and create a new display industry cluster with core competitiveness.

Currently, the new display industry in the Chengdu-Chongqing region is developing rapidly and has become the world's largest OLED production base. Currently, two-thirds of the world's iPads, 50% of laptops, and 10% of smartphones are manufactured in the Chengdu-Chongqing region.

Chen Wentao said that the new display industry is one of the key industries supporting cluster construction. At the 2022 World Display Industry Conference to be held in Chengdu from November 30 to December 1, Sichuan will sign the "Cooperation Agreement on Promoting High-Quality Development of New Displays in the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle" with Chongqing to further promote the coordinated development of the Sichuan-Chongqing display industry, accelerate the development of the entire industry chain covering panels, core materials and components, basic equipment, terminal production and other links, and jointly build the Chengdu-Chongqing region into a domestically leading and internationally renowned world-class new display industry cluster.

Sichuan is an important gathering area for China's new display industry. In recent years, it has gathered panel companies such as BOE and Huike, as well as new display-related supporting industries such as XGIMI, China National Building Materials, and Changhong Electronics, and has initially formed a new display industry manufacturing base with Chengdu and Mianyang as its dual cores.

In order to build a new display industry cluster with core competitiveness, Chen Wentao pointed out that Sichuan will further improve the new display industry supply chain, and strive to make Sichuan’s new display industry’s local supporting rate exceed 60% in three years by leveraging the advantages of the country’s largest AMOLED panel production base and the resource integration capabilities of Chengdu BOE’s “chain master” enterprises; New display industry clusters in Chengdu, Mianyang, Meishan and other places are actively deploying, complying with the development trend of flexible displays and ultra-high-definition displays, vigorously increasing the production capacity of leading enterprises such as BOE, Huike, and Xinli, vigorously introducing high-generation OLED production lines, guiding the OLED industry chain to gather in Sichuan, and striving to build Sichuan into the world's largest OLED production base by 2025.

In addition, Sichuan will also build an innovative development ecosystem for the new display industry, promote the establishment of the Sichuan New Display Collaborative Innovation Center, further improve the independent innovation system with enterprises as the main body, market orientation, and a combination of government, industry, academia, and research, and accelerate the construction of a new display industry ecosystem that connects R&D, pilot testing, raw materials, parts, panel manufacturing, and complete machine integration. It strives to achieve world-class AMOLED R&D and production technology in Sichuan by 2025. The R&D and industrialization of new generation display technologies such as Micro LED and laser display will be in sync with international advanced levels. TFT-LCD will occupy an important position in the national safe and controllable industrial chain.
