Similar to "The Mandalorian", Sony's first black crystal virtual studio in China is about to open in Shanghai

According to news on December 26, Sony (China) Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Sony") and Shanghai Yujian Guanchi Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Guanchi") announced that the country's first black crystal LED virtual production studio has settled on Yuyuan Road in the center of Shanghai and will be officially opened soon.

This virtual studio is located on Yuyuan Road near Jiangsu Road in the center of Shanghai. The main LED screen is 5.5 meters high and has an arc length of 15.2 meters. The total area here reaches 83 In front of a square meter large screen, directors and photographers can freely display their creativity and use digital assets to complete the shooting of their works. The American TV series " "The Mandalorian" adopted a similar shooting plan.

IT House learned that the virtual display has a maximum brightness of 1800 nits, and has an anti-reflective coating that supports HDR, 120 frames and 3D display capabilities with a contrast ratio of 1000000:1.

In addition, the studio is also equipped with Sony’s 8K flagship cinema camera movie camera CineAltaV 2, and a Sony monitor that supports HDR. At the same time, the studio also uses the OptiTrack optical motion capture tracking system, which accurately captures and tracks camera movements through 24 high-speed cameras, and synchronizes them to the real-time rendering engine. The rendered images are displayed on the LED screen in real time with low latency.


Guanchi Managing Director Zhang Xueqin said that at the level of the entire film and television industry, the gap between China and Hollywood in the entire production is still very large, and virtual shooting is expected to shorten the gap. Sony and Guanchi have the same vision to cultivate talents related to professional virtual shooting, empower the entire film and television production, advertising shooting, etc., make China's virtual production business bigger and stronger, and lead the entire industry to participate and share develop together. Establishing a high-quality virtual production studio is only the first step of cooperation. At present, Guanchi and Sony have jointly launched virtual shooting-related training and internship programs for college students using actual cases, and continue to train and deliver virtual shooting professionals to the industry.
